YARD PARTY & HORSE BOX ORCHESTRA

Modern Art Oxford’s Yard, St Ebbe’s Street, Oxford
Thursday 30 July 2009, 5pm – 10pm

After the success of Sound House at 42 Lenthall Road, Rose Hill artist Sarah Kenchington ended her Oxford residency with a Yard Party and a performance of Horse Box Orchestra at Modern Art Oxford.

The yard was transformed into a home-spun street party that centered around Kenchington's Horse Box Orchestra, a mechanical orchestra inside a horse box.

Guest appearances from artist Felicity 'Felix' Ford, musicians Shane Connolly, Alex Hawkins and Oxford-based French chanson and Tango band ENSEMBLE AZUT and DJ Simon Wright featured throughout the night.

A screening of films by Katy Dove, Emma Bowen and Graham Dorey were presented alongside John Rolfe's documentary film of the Sound House and the premiere of Please Leave, a film inspired by the Sound House by Belinda Gilbert Scott.

Tom Milnes led his 21st Century One-Man Band between Modern Art Oxford's Yard Party and two installations in empty shop spaces organised by Oxford’s Launch Collaborative.

However, two local Rose Hill children stole the party with their hand-made musical instrument recital with Kenchington.
