STREET LIGHTS

“Street Lights celebrates the interests, skills and stories of Rose Hill residents by putting them up in lights. The estate becomes a gallery and the houses with the lights the works of art.”
- Artist Jo Huyg

This open-air exhibition of festive lights offered a glimpse of the people who live behind the doors of the houses in Rose Hill.

Following the success of Street Lights in 2007, artists Katy Beinart and Jo Huyg, who live in Rose Hill, worked with more families and young people in Rose Hill to create unique lights for display on their houses during December 2008 and January 2009. Groups from the Community Centre, Children’s Centre, Rose Hill Primary School and the staff of Modern Art Oxford took part. Inspired by participants’ hobbies and interests, the design of each light revealed something special about its creators.

Street Lights Switch-On

On Saturday 6 December artists Katy Beinart and Jo Huyg led a performed walking tour around Rose Hill as the lights of the Street Lights project were switched on. The tour was attend by over 80 people and a total of 16 Street Lights were switched on.
